Heading out to Mount Lemmon this weekend to do some sport and trad climbing with some buddies. New to the area. Looking to camp relatively close to some walls. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Assuming you'll be fairly high up the mountain since it's still hot, there are a couple FS roads that have good "dispersed" camping - Incinerator ridge rd (around MP 21 I think, just before Palisades ranger station) and Mt Bigelow/Bear Wallow rd (just after Palisades, so ~ MP22). Here's a google map: google.com/maps/@32.4119188,-110.7150035,17z
I've camped at both those spots and they're pretty good - note that it is definitely dispersed style, so leave no trace, bring water and bury your poo (or head to the butterfly trailhead for an outhouse). You shouldn't have trouble finding a spot if you go scope it out as soon as you get there, but things fill up after about 4 or 5 on weekends.
Closest crags are going to be in the "Mid Mountain" and "Upper Highway" sections here on MP. I would say you should pick up EFR's new guide book, but right now he's only selling it in the gym so that might be hard.
