Geneva/Switzerland climbing

Hi! I am going to be living in Geneva from the end of September-December. Can anyone recommend good climbing in the area? I would love to do some bouldering as well as some easy single pitch sport climbing. I feel comfortable leading at 5.7

Also - does anyone know of any fun indoor bouldering gyms in the area?

Are there places to rent bouldering pads or should I just foot the bill to ship mine?

thanks!!

You'll want to pick up a copy of Plaisir West.

Doubt you could rent a pad for a reasonable cost. If you really want one there, go buy one in France or Germany for cheaper and then sell it in CH when you leave!

I haven't done any climbing near there myself, so please feel free to contribute any new areas to MP when you're there.

You will also be very close to Chamonix. It is the opposite of easy single-pitch sport climbing, but you might find you like it...

I've climbed in that area. Lake Annecy was my favorite of the places we climbed on the French side with multi-pitch sport routes, perfect stone and moderate grades (maybe some 4s, we climbed 6s).

We used twin 7.5mm ropes due to the rappel descents, common there, so you'll need a belay device to match.

I concur on "Plasir West" guide. Plasir means pleasure or fun. They have another guide with all the hard (7 and up) routes.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
