Anyone have experience living by Ft Rucker, Al?

I'm moving out by Ft Rucker early Novwmber, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience living down there and trying to climb while in the school? Is it possible to get any climbing in with the busy schedule? I already know I won't be in SERE until the new year, at idea how hard is it to put in passes while in a bubble? Sand rock and the Tennessee wall look decent, but they're both 250+ miles away... Also if anyone needs a partner later in the year Id love to get out; I have a rope, rack, hell I'll even have ice tools If someone knows something I don't about ice down there!

The feasibility is contingent on your will-power. Hope you got deep pockets for gas money!

I climbed at both when i was there. Both areas have merit, though T-wall is world class and Sand Rock is not, but still fun. The only thing that made it doable was that I had a teammate who was over the top motivated like myself. It wasn't easy but it was worth it. Gas was cheap back then, but now....

Michael...
An advanced welcome to Alabama.
I have climbed with several guys passing through Rucker for training...Tom, included.
Feel free to get in touch when you arrive if you want to visit Steele, TWall, wherever.
My family has a long history with the military and I always enjoy helping out if I can...
And, yes, there is ice down here in the winter...Western NC, especially.

Thank you everyone for your replies! It's good to hear that it should be possible to get some days in, despite the distance. Thanks for the invite BHMBen, i'll definitely drop you a line when i get down there. I also had no idea there was ice in that area, pretty cool!

Howdy. I'm in fligjt school too and haven't had the chance to get out. It's a drive and hard to find partners here. But we do have an indoor wall that was reset a couple months ago by someone going through ACCC. It's not much, but it's a workout. Hit me up when you get here. It would be great to have somebody willing to make the road trip with if you're interested.

Sounds great, I just got here a few days ago, and I am having my things delivered on Thursday. I'd love to get out sometime, or if there's something else fun to do around here and you're in need of a partner let me know!
