Description Suggest change

Several fun granite boulders can be found around Payette Lake, with between a 1 to 10 minute drive between the blocks. Problems range between some light and low warm ups to tougher ones such as 'the project' on North Beach Boulders and Cosmic Synergy on the Aspen Boulder. All the bouldering is somewhat close to the road, and somewhat shady. Very few crowds. Decent rock quality, although a brush is recommended. One crash pad is sufficient for most spots, unless you want to explore the talus fields north of the lake.

Getting There Suggest change

Driving clockwise around the lake along Warren Wagon Rd, the first set, the North Beach Boulders, is north of North Beach, past the boat docks. Park in the river-beach area about 1/2 mile past the docks, and then cross the road to the two blocks visible on the west side of the road. The next area is the talus field below the Thinking Spot. From Warren Wagon, turn right onto East Side Drive, and cross the bridge over the North Fork. Park below the thinking spot crag. The Traverse boulder is at the North end of the Talus field. Continuing around the Payette Lake to the South, you can find the road to the Logger Wall, which goes to the east just past the parking area for 'the cliffs' swimming spot. To get to the logger wall, park and walk up the little road, around the flat area overlooking the main road, and follow an old overgrown road north around a slight gulley to the flat opening and the taller boulder problems. Next, there is the E.T. boulder above the main road and to the left a bit after the Logger wall area, about 100 yds before you come to the Aspen Boulder, which stands just a few feet from the road. About 1/2 mile past the Aspen Boulder is Either/Or. A short, blocked-off, road runs to the east across the street from an undeveloped camp area. The boulder is about 40 yds to the east of East Side Drive.
