Tyler Mugg, I live outside of Boise, but I'm always looking for winter time Black Cliff partners. Let me know if you have time and want to climb.

I might be moving there in January! If I do, I'll definitely hit you up...also, hit me up with a PM if you know anyone who needs a roommate or have knowledge on the housing situation!

Dear Whoever:

I got some potential here, but ya'll may not need/want me.

I am an old smelly climber from the old days. After a dozen years farting around Yos. I kinda have become jaded and burned out on the Black cliffs. I don't climb as much as I used to (duh!) and when I do, I usually don't hang a lot at the BC's. Despite a bad back, I still seem to have some small skillz.

I got a lot of time somedays, and I got a serious diversity of fun.

Right now, I need to go back to the Swan falls area (roughly) and pick up a sulphur nodule (I think) I left there a year ago while exploring some less used areas near there. It will require walking and a little scrambling here and there. Not as thrilling as a climb, but it would serve as an introduction. I intend to make up some powder...

Also got a trip I want to do above and around Jump Creek, (a few miles away from there) but thats next year. Google earth shows some formations I want to get a better look at.

General Notes:

Do you have a bike? I do a lot of that around here, its the latest thing since they began developing the local trail system into a highly polished tourist attraction. They are also useful when you can't use a car to explore an area.

Do you backcountry ski? Winter is coming on fast and I didn't buy a pass to Bogus last year, don't expect to put a lot of miles there this year. But I do spend a certain amount of time on skis around here... have for about 30 years so I actually have some idea as to where to run them.

I got a couple guys or so I often run with (metaphorically, nobody actually runs...) but my kid is got too many responsibilities, my regular partner of about 25 years is nursing himself back to health, but as they cracked his chest open he's gonna have some more downtime. Maybe a lot. But I won't introduce you around until you been vetted a little though. Gotta protect my homies.

I got weekdays free more or less so I got time thats not being used. Most weekends are either with them or with my wife.

Lately I been looking for Tartus holes in the sand. They are hard to find even when you think you know about where they are. NSS is pretty worthless locally, they are all about keeping people out, not being inclusive and running the show their way. Not my kind of guys, or so they seemed when I checked out their little club meeting. Too into gates and locking the doors.

Official Warning and Disclaimer:

I am not necessarily a nice guy. I am apparently a pain in the ass, and despite a high IQ, I must be an obvious retard or the majority of people I meet are, one. That is to say, I drink heavily occasionally (several times a week?), smoke and do other things that place me on the outside of church groups. That is, while I have grandchildren, a lot of people don't want me near THEIR kids. Or their wives, or girlfriends... or themselves for that matter. And I got no real sense of direction at all, I get lost a lot. My BC car is an old piece of shit, so I ROMP on it. Make it or break it, thats what they are for. So you have been warned, you might have to walk home. Shit happens.

All that aside, I am mostly honest, decent and willing to sweat and I have some idea as to where a lot of good stuff is. I might not tell you right away, but I do.

I am old, most (not all) of my friends are old, and I kinda like old guys, they share a lot of my values and have a certain attitude, along with perhaps a certain amount of money. You gotta chip into the beer and gas funds or show up with your own, I am not running a guide service. I also need you to understand that not every trip is a winner, some trips are recon... many trips are recon... Recon often is a bust, I spent 3 entire trips once just to find a fucking hole in the desert and thats when the Army showed up... (their CO gave us a Striker and a two man guard detail so I guess it worked out OK), makes a good story between me and my kid (who's about 32).

Occasionally we go and shoot stuff, also. Not many loaners there, unless you buy your own ammo. Understand: killing plague ridden whistlepigs is a public service in Idaho. Get your license, its cheap. Don't shoot anybody.

We also have Dogs on almost every trip. You don't like dogs, tough. There is the door. Too young, too pretty, too delicate, too female, too screaming gay or too damn weird, likewise. I'm done with social experiments.

If you go out with me, understand I require a little discretion, I don't want my favorite areas overwhelmed by geeking and thats already a problem. I don't usually notify police, land managers or landowners of anything; I take care of my own problems, mostly. I am private and responsible but you won't get Mtn. Proj. points telling people you are hanging with Rokjox, I get banned faster than a gazelle running from a cheetah. It appears I can break the #1 guideline here just by being alive and breathing.

Think about it. Maybe, maybe not.

rokjox@centurylink.net

Maybe.

Who are YOU?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
