I have just arrived in Marseille and looking for climbing partners in Les Calanques. I have a car and basic gear like harness, helmet, and shoes but need a partner with rope and draws. Leading 5.11 in the USA and probably 6c in France. Shoot me an email if interested in meeting up. eric.m.hazlett@gmail.com

Calanques has restrictions due to fire hazard this time of year.

Could severely impact a trip to this area...

The main restriction in calanque is....
....the thieves.

let your car empty (and open). if yosemite bears are a probability, marseille thieves are a sure thing

I've climbed in the Calanques lots of times without anything getting stolen.

Lots of other people have done that also, including lots of local Marseille and Toulon climbers and lots of French climbers visiting from other regions.
Also some non-French climbers like me.

There are strategies which help reduce the risk of theft. I use some of them.

Anyway I'm glad that so many Americans are afraid to try climbing in the Calanques -- less crowding for the rest of us.

. (of course thefts from climbers never occurs in the USA).
