Potentially Moving to Mammoth (any opinions?)

We just spent a bit of time in Mammoth and loved the town. We are currently living in L.A. And have always been dying to move to a less populace area on the eastside but since we have two kids we must have potential work.

Does Mammoth have decent work potential year round? Is it a nice place to live? Anyt ideas on how the schooling is? Any thing else I should consider? housing costs?

FYI my wife has experience in child care and I am hihly experienced in electrical and low voltage (home automation, A/V, data networks, etc). Figured thats sort of important for work info. We are both willing to do whatever for work if it pays the bills and we get out of L.A.

I don't live there, but I like Mammoth. I wouldn't want to live and drive in the snow, though.

The snow isn't as bad as the 405 and it is far less dangerous!

They sent out an email about a month ago and were looking for a ton of positions for the upcoming season. I think they had openings in the child care center and the facilities department.

Good luck with your move.

Remember you said that when the Great Blizzard of 2016 hits. :)

There's always Independence, Big Pine and Bishop to avoid the snow, although those towns aren't as nice.

i lived there for years, i loved it.

If you are an experienced ski tech/bike tech you can find year round work easily.

there are more jobs with better pay potential for skilled workers, like the energy company, sanitation dept etc. May be a bit harder to get, those people are lifers in Mammoth and aren't giving up those jobs any time soon. But they are out there.

Lift maintenance is a good gig there, I bet you could get that easy. They hire every year, can be good pay.

There are plenty of opportunities for accountants and HR department stuff at the mtn.

Best pay is probably for bartenders though...don't drive drunk! you will get a dui.

There is a free bus that goes everywhere in town very often. virtually no need to drive a car there, except to go to Gardnerville/bishop/east side trails.

Rent is not cheap. But worth it!

Let me know if there is any more specific questions you have!

Everything is overpriced from gas to housing. Kinda yuppy-ish but a beautiful area for sure. Good luck finding a well-paying job, and it's a good thing you're wifed up because single women are hard to come by. Bishop has a cooler local scene but jobs are probably even harder to come by. Best of luck on the move!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
