Has anyone else noticed that the weather icons in the climbing areas on this sight are much more pessimistic than other forecasts?

Is this a ploy to keep the crags clear? If so, good thinking.

The source data comes from weather.io, which is thought to be one of the best out there. If you see errors, let me know!

I have noticed it too. It seems to think it will rain every other day. I don't trust it much.

I think the issue is that the icon just shows rain whether it's a 10% chance or rain or a 90% chance of rain. This makes it look much more pessimistic than the weather really is. It would be a much more helpful feature if there was a way to put the percent chance of rain right on the icon, just keep the icon the same, but inside of the cloud put a 40% or whatever.

Hmm yeah I have noticed it tends to be on the negative side, a percentage chance would bee a significant improvement

come on..... 10% chance of rain is like 90% chance of no rain.... think that way.

all my friends look at the forecast and change plans!!!!?????

don't you know that only fools or noobs try to predict the weather in the mountains.

That's my point exactly. If I see a 10% chance of rain I'm still going climbing, but 90% chance, well, I'll still probably climb, but I'll have to plan to climb in a cave or something. The current weather app doesn't give any useful information though, because all it ever shows is rain with no indication of probability.

And this is exactly the problem with the current weather app, since in the mountains it's pretty much a chance of rain every single day, when you look at the forecast it just shows up as raining all the time for a lot of crags. I don't care what method is used to give a % chance or rain, I just need something to gage if it is worth trying to get some climbing in or nor.

The provided weather service lack the level of detail I require for planning. It fails to acuratly predict/describe changing conditions through a given day.

We went back to using the National Weather Service, which seems much better. Thanks for pointing this out!
