Who's got the low down on the new gear at the 2015 Summer OR show?

Thanks,

...Bueller?...Bueller?

The Alpine Start has a footwear rundown, with hardware and clothes to come.

Any other good recaps out there? Anyone who was actually there?

The new Tibloc from petzl was nice. I played around with it a bit and it doesn't seem to slip at all. Smaller overall profile, some interesting design detail and faceting, and the spring mechanism seems like a good idea. I tried my best to swindle one, but they were no fun :(

Epic TV had some fantastic coverage of Outdoor in Friedrichshafen, which basically everything that was at OR and more was at Friedrichshafen.

The new C4 ultralights are getting me stoked.

...and now packs, too: thealpinestart.com/2015/08/…

I'll post clothing, and miscellaneous gear, on Monday (probably).

Hmmm... does the BD Speed Zip 24 have an external rope strap? Looks like a heck of an alpine/skimo pack if it does - skis, headless tools, crampons, and rope all tight and tidy on the outside.

Sounds like it does: "Zippered clamshell top opening with zippered top pocket and tuck-away rope strap."

No trouble, it's straight from the workbook.

Another thorough show review for the curious, though I tend to prefer thealpinestart one.

The $380 wooden ice tool looks quite sexy!

I think I'm most excited about the DMM vault. Plastic ice clippers are a nightmare waiting to happen. The Petzl clippers are the best but I've had them flex sideways so the wire gate slips behind the hook leaving the hook completely unsupported. I'm in for at least 4 of the DMM Vaults, its about time a company came out with these.

I prefer the Petzl, too, but I think these will be 'it.' Thinking 2 locking and 2 wiregate.

They really do look perfect, but the price!

The locker is interesting, you can have it fully open, if I read the spec sheet correctly. Also, 3kn. Not bad.

Basically, you can either 'open' or 'lock' it, so that it will function as a regular racking biner, or you can lock the gate so it won't open. It's not an auto-lock, but rather an on-off function.

As far as price... I've had a couple friends break their plastic ones and watch 4 or 5 screws tumble down an alpine climb... $45 is not only cheaper than a few hundred worth of new screws, it's also security on the climb ensuring you have the gear to continue.

I'll switch over all of mine to these, but I'll probably stick with the plastic ones for my wife's harness: she only ever goes cragging, so even if she were to break one it's not a loss of screws.

Makes sense. You've convinced me! Rolling the dice with my plastics until I have me money.

Did anyone see the size run for the scarpa vapor laces? Scarpa has a frustratingly small size run for my clown feet...

I had a tool get ripped off a plastic clipper on rappel. Dug through the snow at the base for an hour and luckily found it. I'm upgrading.

screw clipper

Biners + drill press + .25" press fit aluminum dowel swelled w/ center punch. You can make enough for stocking stuffers for everyone this holiday season on the cheap.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
