Do braces actually help for bad elbows? (climbers/tennis elbow)

The one shown in the video appears to be just a tensioned piece of fabric, how can this possibly serve to lessen an impact on a damaged tendon?

Many thanks

I had a bout of tendentious and tried physical therapy this helps.braces did nothing for me but make me sweat and restrict blood flow and movement.pt tape worked best it acts as an external tendon.

I had a similar result. I tried the brace thing and it did not work very well for me. The pair I had just sits in the closet now.

I found this worked for me. I was skeptical but after a few weeks the pain went away. I didnt take much time off of climbing about a week doing just this program then did it on my off days and climbed one day less than normal until it started to ferel better. now i do it as maintinence along with pushups and it has been fine.

Ok, a few different things that have and haven't worked for me.

Haven't worked - the strap as shown in the video. They're either too tight or too loose because you get pumped. Most "creams/gels/topicals (though there was something I bought from China - wood lock oil - that helped).

Have worked - rest and I hate to rest. Acupuncture. Stretches as shown in the Julian Sanders video (they help allot). TENS unit. Cortisone injection.

Had left elbow problems and a combo of acupuncture, stretches, TENS and minor rest got rid of the tendinitis.

Had right elbow problems and let it get bad, started with the above and didn't rest - and it required cortisone and actually taking three months off from climbing. I actually wear a "McDavid" elbow sleeve with pressure pads while climbing / mountain biking and haven't had any re-occurrence.

Just my two cents.

No, the braces don't help. But they keep the area warm and restrict blood flow.

My climbing partner used braces in a fevered attempt to reduce tendonitis. What really helped was the Metolius Grip Saver. His climbers elbow went away within days of using it.

Braces during activity can be effective for 2 reasons, minimize vibration and strain on forearm.
Braces during rest are generally not good because they will stagnate blood flow and make you stiffer. youtu.be/o9izhDseyxM one tool that works great to get more blood flow and get rid of tension and designed by a mountain guy. (details in description) and

I just got a Thera Band flex bar after some old golfer's elbow acting up and I have to save it started helping within days. My elbows went from hurting doing simple tasks like typing on Monday to being to boulder comfortably outside on Saturday. Still not completely gone but it has been a huge help after only one week.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
