New to SLC - meeting climbers?
|
Hey everyone, I'm new to SLC - just moved from Scotland where I was living for the past two years. I'm really looking forward to getting outdoors here, and was wondering if anyone has any general pointers for meeting people with similar interests. - Climbing: I have experience sport climbing (leading up to maybe 5.10 outside) and have followed some folks up trad routes. I don't have much experience with all the "logistical" bits of climbing though - setting up an anchor, managing ropes on a multi-pitch, trad basics, etc. I'm really wanting to learn a lot of this stuff, and wonder if the best way to learn is just by going out with folks and asking questions (or if there are relevant courses offered nearby to learn the basics) - Mountaineering: From reading online, it seems like there are some pretty interesting ridge scrambles in the Wasatch, and nearby there are some more serious mountaineering options - (e.g. in the Grand Tetons). In Scotland I was quite keen on doing this sort of thing - think easy climbing, maybe with a short rope. It's hard for me to tell how popular this sort of thing is here, because most of the emphasis seems to be either on easy hikes or vertical roped climbing. When the snow starts, I'm also up for doing some easy winter routes as well. Also, speaking of meeting people - does anyone want to climb at Momentum tonight? I've never gone before but will likely get a membership there. |

Millcreek Momentum is very popular and I have found most people are very friendly at that gym. |

Welcome but heads up I believe momentum is closed tonight b/c everyone is up watching the psicobloc climbing competition(which has a live stream) in park city. I am not sure on the exact time it closes. |

There are some alpine scrambles to do, you can read about some of them here: mountainproject.com/v/wasat… I think summitpost probably has a bit better info about these though. |
