I'm hoping to find a very nice person who has a campsite they are willing to share for 8/14-8/16 in the Valley.

Happy to pay camp fees, and provide homemade cookies, good beer, and a friendly face!

You could try going to Camp 4 if you arrive early enough the day of (i.e. 8 AM)

^^^HA HA HA!! August..Camp 4....early? Try 2 am, and get in line.
Best bet is to go to the ranger station in the apple orchard (Curry) and hope for cancelled sites.
But good luck to the OP, worth a try.
OH, camp 4 has now posts how many sites will be available that day, so at least we do not have wait in line to find it full. SO get the number (posted in the window) and count the people.

Thanks! I have done the Camp 4 and Curry Village thing - and was hoping to find someone with a reservation so I didn't have to try that this time.

I agree with the 2 AM Camp 4 situation this time of year, and if I can't find something I'll probably retreat to a secret spot.

If you check recreation.gov a couple of times a day, you might be able to find a late cancellation for one of the Pines campgrounds. Which are nicer than Camp 4. Keep checking back and something may open up.

FrankPS for the win! I checked RecGov twice today, and secured a spot for that weekend and another trip 8/28 weekend.

We'll have at least 3 more spots, and I'm happy to share if a rogue climber wants to sleep legally those weekends. :)

WOW! That is so cool, and rare, good on you.
Make sure you check on roads, there are a lot of fires blazing, roads get closed. All good for the valley at the moment, but, it's California, we're on fire.

Putting some effort into it can pay off. Good job. Have fun!

I've gotten sites two years in a row, on weekends, at camp 4, getting there no earlier than 7-8 am... although, two years ago, it was while Tuolumne was on fire and there was smoke just clearing from the Valley.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
