Info on Tufa City
Hi all, I was hoping to get some info on this area: |
There is no guidebook. |
The topos that Hendrixson posted in the photo section of each area here on MP are pretty up to date and should help you find the route you are looking for. |
Camping is very limited at Homestead. It is your best bet because driving in and out every day would limit your time greatly. |
As of a few months ago there was a sizable bee hive in a large pocket early into Tufa Yard Dash. There used to be foam filling the hole because bees love to make it into a hive. By the time Thanksgiving rolls around there should be more up to date beta about the insect situation. |
Thanks for the info guys. If I do not have a high clearance vehicle, how long is the hike in? I'm from out state and would probably be renting a car in PHX or somewhere else in the state. |
The hike along the road would take quite a while. Maybe 1.5-2 hrs. There is a more direct approach but it involves a google map search and bushwhack. |
Hiking in from the highway takes about an hour for a slightly above average fit person. Start on Rough Rider in the morning then head to Tufa City after 1 30 or two. Takes about 20-30 minutes. No problem spring or fall temp wise. Marley can be warm even in the winter. Winter has shorter days and cooler temperatures so you can climb in the sun unless you are one of those "it's 3 degrees too warm for the friction to be perfect, never mind" types. |
