Heading to WY to climb this weekend. Deciding between Wild Iris, Ten Sleep, and Sinks. I've heard good things about all of them, but was looking for some help in deciding. Any pros/cons? If WY is as hot as MT is this week, which would be the best place to escape the heat (as much as possible)?

Thanks!

The new guide (out this summer) has good info regarding sun/shade at the crags. I would personally avoid Sinks this time of year. I see plenty of people at the Wild Iris Main Wall, but I hate the intense sun.

My Wild Iris shade info is:
- before 12 PM at OK Corral or Zorro Wall
- before 3PM at Erratic/Remuda
- after ~4 PM at Main Wall or Aspen Glades

Certain climbs face different aspects than the entire cliff, but these times give a good general idea. If it is cool, cloudy, or breezy right at the wall, climb wherever you want.

Other shady crags: Sinks Shady Side, Sweat Lodge, Wolf Pup.

Ten Sleep, 100%

Sinks will be roasting; Wild Iris would probably be OK because it's at a higher elevation, but I've never been terribly excited by the climbing there. Ten Sleep has tons of crags, lots of shady spots, really fun climbing & is the winner in my book! :-)

Also: Ten Sleep isn't exactly close to Lander. I believe (depending on your route) they are 3 hours or so apart.

Have fun!
