I have some noob questions. Webbing, anchors, etc.

Can anyone hook me up with some PLASTIC pitons and maybe a METAL harness?

Since this thread has veered into a discussion of instruction... Folks who think "no metal-on-metal" have probably fallen victim to one of the pitfalls of inadequate anchoring instruction. It goes like this: at some point they were told not to do something like chaining several unlocking biners together. But they never learned "why", only that they did a bad thing. So they mistakenly expand/generalize the comment to "no metal on metal".

I've even seen folks try to substantiate biner-on-biner as dangerous because "all the force is focused on a tiny spot". (Tell that to the folks who developed the UIAA test protocol for biners.)

I just want to climb. Jesus. I have everything I need to top-rope so I want to top-rope. I'm not looking to die, nor get anyone killed. I just want to climb.

Your local volunteer fire department might have some old fire hose that's getting retired, makes a great sheath for protecting sharp edges, all you need is 3-5 feet to protect your rope/webbing whatever.

Since you've already got the gear spend the $$ to get this book, read it and find someone to help you out. There's more to it than meets the eye and it's easy to be arrogant and kill someone. No one wants to see a climber deck, it's especially sad when it's a first time climber trusting their life to another new climber, because you could kill someone.

Thank you. I will buy the book and read it. I bought 4 more locking carabiners and some webbing just for the hell of it. Just need the book now. Thanks.

Just bought the book. I have also been watching a lot of video online as well. Building anchors etc. It all makes perfect sense to me. I understand what they are doing and why. It's not rocket science, at least for me it's not. I can understand how it would be a bit challenging for some though.

If I were your parents, ^ these phrases are what would really worry me.

Be careful, an ego and complacency will kill you in this sport.

CVRIV, where are you located? If you ever make it up to Tahoe/Truckee I'd be glad to go out with you and get you climbing. Feel free to shoot me a PM if interested.

I live in Jersey. Way to far away:) I do appreciate the offer though:) I signed up at meetup.com, hopefully I can find some climbing partners/ instructors there.
