I'm in the market for a good 3 season alpine boot. I currently have the Trango Cubes, which have been a great boot for me. Unfortunately they do squeeze my foot a bit and are thus not as warm as I'd like. They have worked well for good weather objectives in spring and summer, but I am looking for something that will hold up better in the cold and is a bit less stiff (a better hiker).
I have the impression that the Evo S is the standard 3 season boot, but am intrigued by the new Trango Alp Evo.
Does anyone have any comparison of these two, either in relation to each other or to the Cubes?
Cheers,
Tess

My understanding is that the trango alp is basically the same as the trango s, but in full leather. As such, it would be somewhat more durable, but weighs (and costs) more.
Since you mentioned that the trango cubes are squeezing your foot a bit, you might want to check out the Scarpa Charmoz . Very similar in design / construction / weight to the sportiva trango s, but in my experience has a bit more roomy fit--particularly in the toe box & pinky toe area.
Charmoz are a great boot, new-matic compatible, light, waterproof. The only negative I find is that the lugs on the sole are not very aggressive meaning they suck on muddy trails and sand. The rubber is pretty sticky and has an edging platform (climbed 5.8 with them no prob).

All three are built on the same last and have similar insulation. If you want something warmer you'll have to look at the Extreme Evo from LS or Rebel Pro GTX from Scarpa. Scarpa boots are wider in the forefoot if your Trangos are too narrow. Also, the Trango EVO S is probably the softest boot around, if you want more durability or warmth you will have to sacrifice flexibility.
