I think this should go in the general forum not only the AZ/NM forum.
Good on you for posting.

It's easy to donate. I did. I often hear folks say they would help with buying bolts etc, now they can pony up easily.

Thanks for all your help! Any amount is helpful.

I would be happy to donate time and work.
How is the road, has there been any work done on it?
Would like to meet some more Homestead climbers!
Thanks for the post.

Now that AF is a stake holder in the process of evaluating and maintaining the road, we have a say in fixing the road. Prior to the purchase we could merely beg. The BLM and AZ G&F are in the "process" of doing just that.

So the road is still a big deterrent to most people. You can walk in or catch a ride.

Several times people tried to fix the road and it didn't last more than a rain or two. What we need now is money. The time and work donations can come later.

Let's try to keep this at the top of the page, I've never climbed there yet, but it's on the top of my list for future winter destinations. Please donate to help secure future access.

I have been to the Homestead a few times. I like it and want to go again.

I sent $$$ to AF specifically for the HS.

It's easy to donate money to the Homestead. With this purchase, we have a guaranteed access to this great crag plus more that was closed in the past.

Please help.

Whats the plan? Should I bring my own Jackhammer?

They helped do some clean up at Oak Flat last year. Might do the same here? Although it isn't very dirty since the Mesquite tree was cleaned up.

"They helped do some clean up at Oak Flat last year." I hope they have a better plan...than asking us to take the trash home :(

Homestead

Is there a plan as of yet? With 3 days of work scheduled, someone must have some idea as to what's going to happen.

Hi Dave

Nice to see you will be spending another season down there. Look forward to climbing with you again.

Here is what has happened since the land was purchased by the Access Fund. From the 2nd gate, at the top of the hill, before you drop down to where the old corral (original camping) is, there are NOW "no trespassing" signs. There is no current "right of way" through Tatum's property.

Since this area is now being handled by the Access Fund they have the information on these legal land issues. To keep climbing access Ty Tyler(Access Fund) has determined that the best course of action is to build new camping platforms on the top of the hill at that gate and create a trail that will go down the hill to the general area of "Stephens Ville" as we like to affectionally call it. From there, people will now have to hike the road the rest of the way into the crag.

Tatum's property is for sale and he does not want to give "right of way" at this time. Passing through this property on the road is now trespassing.

Julie Brugger has been a SACC volunteer in on all the conference calls with the Access Fund regarding the Homestead. Her PhD focused on land designations and her years of climbing experience across the world give her great perspective on climbing access. We are very lucky to have her and I have faith that she will ask the right questions.

It was her that asked why the Dec 5th Adopt A Crag project developed camping on the top of the hill. Here is a map that shows the plan. Got feedback? more ideas? Let's get it on the table and make sure your voice is heard. I am no longer on the SACC board but am finishing up with the Adopt A Crag at the Cochise Stronghold this weekend. It would be great to see you. Please contact SACC with any further questions on the area.
