Me and the kids (7 and 9, each with 2 yrs climbing experience) are climbing this weekend and need an adult to help with the trad routes. More kids welcome. Devil's Lake and Necedah are on the list of possible locations, but we're open to suggestions. I have 2 ropes endless webbing, and a rack and a half, though I'm short on quickdraws. I'll trad 5.7 and climb 5.10. The boys can climb 5.7 and even 5.8 where moves don't require 5-foot heights or more. But they're little: they can be pulled past the crux as long as there isn't too much frictional tow on the rope.
Thanks for the advice, Joel. We ended up going to Petenwell Bluff, which I highly recommend. Plenty of climbers, but not crowded, and some really fun climbs.
Good to hear you had fun, I love Necedah. If you do end up going to DL (YOU SHOULD!) in the future there is good family areas that shouldn't be crowded.
You got that right. Most every climber who's stopped to watch my kids has said something like, "I wish someone had started me that young". My kids are lucky little buggers. And it's fun to watch them flash 5.6's, then arrogantly proclaim that, "that route should be called a 5.4, Dad!" Necedah was awesome, but we'll be visiting DL soon, I hope.
