Rewilding is a program out of Boulder CO that works with formerly incarcerated young adults offering travel and adventure opportunities designed to broaden horizons, as well as a sense of the world and self.

We're filming a documentary with award winning filmmakers between July 22-Sept 30th that follows a formerly incarcerated young man named Anthony Dejesus on his Journey. We had hoped to fund the production and Anthony's gear through Kickstarter. We raised $20K which is short of our goal. Now we need to figure out a different option.

Gear Anthony needs:
-Feet: Climbing Shoes, Hiking boots, Crampons (size 11)
-Technical: Harness, Belay Device, Mountaineering Ice Tool, Helmet (donated! Thanks)
-Tops: Rain Shell Jacket , Down Sweater (or similar), Wicking shirt (medium)
-Bottoms: Rain Shell Pants, Outdoor Pants, Outdoor Shorts (Medium/31 waist)
-Accessories: Head Lamp, Nalgene, Gloves (medium-Large)
-camping: sleeping pad, sleeping bag, stuff sack, tent ( he might not need a tent on this trip. But it would be cool to send him home with one so he could go camping with people we connect him with back in New York)

Here are links to content on the project and an Interview with Anthony who the gear is for below.

Wait you got 20k in cash and can't afford what you need?

I have less than 2k in gear and feel like i can go anywhere for weeks at a time in the US.

If you don't hit your goal on Kickstarter, all of the funds get returned to the backers. So I think what he's trying to say is that they were going for 20k, fell short, and got nothing.

I've got some clothes I can donate. My extra harnesses are used for canyoneering, and so are thrashed.

We were going for $65K. We made $20K. As mentioned if you don't hit your goal on KS you get nothing. Gear was really a small part of our total costs. Producing a high level documentary is not cheap. Professional film team, filming equipment, travel expenses, marketing/distribution, a van, gear, etc.

We've produced all the content seen thus far by being super thrifty and out of pocket. As we didn't make out funding goal we will have to continue via this strategy. This is our thrifty idea for gear.

@Austin Baird, if you have some clothes that would work we would appreciate and accept it. Thanks a lot!

I figured that was what you were going for but your wording sounds like it was all going for gear.

@ Viper Scale, you're right the wording did sound like that. I edited it to make it clearer, thanks!

I would be worried about liability of using used, donated equipment. It just seems dangerous because beginners wont know what failures to look for and its possible you guys could miss them and it just seems like a bad idea to me. Lawyer bait if you will.

I would ask the big companies for donations. They can write that shit off their taxes and its brand new nice stuff.

I think that's good advice from jmarsh as well.

Jesse, I've got some size 9 shoes in almost new condition. If you want them let me know.

Interesting idea. Well.

I'm just under 6', slim build, my things fit me well enough so they might fit Anthony.

- You didn't ask, but I have a surplus 55L alpine pack (same model/color as this one: [1]). It's not brand new, but it has most of its life left in it. If he needs it he can have it.

- I have two down jackets, a moderately warm one[2] and a very warm one[3]. He he wants the moderately warm one he can have it, if he needs the very warm one he can have it - but keep in mind it has a much less durable shell material.

- Rainshell wise, I have an almost new Teton Brothers Neoshell jacket. Neoshell isn't cheap, but if he needs it....He can have it.

- Headlamp - I have a 3 AAA black diamond spot [4] he can have if he wants

- As new 33/32 MHW rock climbing pants, I'm normally around a 32" and they're borderline too tight so they might fit Anthony just fine [5]. (Not sure if I shrunk them or not). You won't want to use them for alpine stuff, but for climbing they're great. He can have them if he wants.

- Black Diamond regular ATC, used maybe twice. *But* unless you're using 10mm or thicker ropes, I'd suggest something with more braking power.

Haven't gotten any boots that will fit, boots and gloves you'll want to try a few on first. You're not after hiking boots, you're after mountaineering boots (maybe B2?) and a compatible pair of crampons.

I've got all the other stuff on the list, but if I give it away then I'll be lacking it. If he's desperately short of stuff let us know.

Downside is I live in Australia, so postage may take a while and its probably not worth posting things back that don't fit.

If any if these formerly incarcerated adventurers make it down to Australia let me know, I'm no guide but there's a few adventures to be had around the place.

Besides the backpack they are all things Anthony is in need of. I'm just curious about the cost of shipping and maybe a bigger issue is the time it takes. I'll look into this and get back to you.

Thanks a bunch, super cool!

bump

We still need most of the gear listed for Anthony. We leave soon so you would really have to be in Boulder or the front range it to work. If you have any and can contribute any of the stuff on the list lease let us know.
