Rhode Island is not in Massachusetts

When I search the Partners Forum by a Rhode Island zip code it pulls up climbers in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, as far away as Boston. It does not pull up climbers in nearby CT. Most Rhode Islanders climb in nearby CT not MA. I can get around this by searching with a CT zip code but we in Little Rhody (35 miles x 75 miles) have an inferiority complex, even though we're told size doesn't matter, so it would help overcome this feeling of inadequacy if you fix it. Thanks.

As a Rhode Islander I'd head to Mass way before CT, though I do most of my climbing in NH by far. Haven't climbed in CT probably for over a decade except for a little bouldering. I did learn a lot from climbing there in my early years though. The whole access scene and vestiges of the bolt war just make it feel way too uptight for me. Live free or die!

Mark, You are the exception. The vast majority of RI climbers climb in nearby CT. Ross Pond, Lantern Hill, and others have a dozen or more RI climbers on a weekend. You can enter in a Westerly zip code and you will get partners in Boston 90 miles away but none in CT one mile away.

I guess it is because I am really into new routing and exploring for new rock, and there aren't so many good options for that in eastern CT as in NH. In Mass I get to check out new stuff when visiting Ward.

It does seem odd the eastern CT climbers don't show up.

There is new routing in CT. It is just kept secret so it doesn't get chopped. Nothing like Greens Cliff but a lot closer. I'm not sure where you mean eastern CT climbers don't show up at? There are lots that show up in eastern CT. Whitey has climbed out there with me a few times. If you ever want to check out some new routes there let me know. There are some hard roofs in an area we have been developing that are above my level. There are 274 non-bouncing email addresses in the ClimbRI email group and most of them climb in nearby CT. You are probably not aware of them because they are not the bouldering crowd.

I meant not show up in your search from a RI zip code, sorry.

Just did a search from my zip for females 18-40 :)) and yeah, people from Boston all the way to NYC, but nobody from CT. They probably all hate bolts and have mustaches anyway ;)

Hmm..somebody likes "cooking and making baked goods to foist onto strangers at the crag" You can foist them on me. I'll try some. I have an excellent palate.

Our zip code searching is really old... and lame. It just matches on the first couple digits of the zip code.

We now have all the lat/lon data for zips, and can write some better code, but we have other fairly urgent things that will happen first. In the mean time, try entering a zip code where you want to find partners.

I have added it to the list though.

mark- you should do a nation wide search for "willing to go out and scrub. get lost and thrash"
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
