What's a good rope to use to make prusiks?

I have 10.5mm dynamic rope. I read somewhere that the prusik rope should be about 70% of the climbing rope, which is about 7 - 8mm for me. My only question is... which rope to use? I don't want to use any 7mm climbing rope as my prusik. I also read that stiffer ropes don't work well as prusik cord. Softer cords are better because they cinch tighter. Which manufactured rope is best or just better. Thanks.

6mm nylon sterling, never let me down

I also use 6mm. Found the red New England cord at REI to be soft and supple, but the blue PMI cord to be excessively stiff and unworkable. YMMV

The yellow/orange 6mm nylon cord from Sterling, nice and flexible and locks well..

7-8mm is far too fat.

I use 5mm, others use 6mm

Ive found sterling and maxim mylon cord to be fairly supple

Mammut is quite stiff

Remember the thinner the cord the more "grabby" it will be

Youll need to find out for yourself as each knot, cord and rope type is different and may require different amounts of friction

Most any 5-6mm accessory cord should work fine. Depending on the particular cord & rope combination you may need to adjust things with one more/fewer wraps.

6mm nylon, soft and supple. Stiff is a pain in the butt.

I utilize prussiks all the time. 6mm nylon is the ticket.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
