How about the #5 and the #6?

Did they get dropped as well?

I think the #5 and #6 were not included for the same reason; the weight savings didn't justify the cost increase.

I don't think they're dropping those three sizes (0.3, 5, 6). They just won't be available in the ultralight version.

I'd imagine you can just put a piece of tape over it to prevent dirt from going in.

I don't know if WC got the memo with the extendable slings and thumb loop. BD played around with that idea and found that it really deforms the thumb loop when loaded.

The C4 cable around the thumb loop is thinner than usual (half the thickness/cross-section area & 2 strands/ends of the cable form the actual stem). It's unclear WC adopted the same approach (likely not) as thin dynemma slings aren't much of a problem for aliens, master cam (you can pinch your finger through the loop, but the strength is just fine).

I'd be more worried whether the new C4 loop will collapse over time.

They have the extended slings on the 2015 heliums and they work just fine. Also just a touch to add to the excitement I emailed WC and their designer said the 5 and 6 tech friend sizes will be carried over in their new cam designs. My money will more than likely go to WC like it already does. Could it be the age of BD is running out like aliens did with the new totem basics?

In a big fall the extendible slings pinch down on the thumb loop possibly tweaking it

Even skinny single dyneema slings can do this .... Some of my aliens and zeros have thumb loops that are starting to get elongated/tweaked

The doubled (not the same as extendible) slings BD uses on their cams reduces this

DMM was originally going to go with a thumbloops and extendible slings for thedragons .... But they kept tweaking and failing below a certain load in tests

Does it matter? .... That depends if you take good whippers constantly and want cams that can take serious abuse

When BD came out with the C4's the .3 and the larger cams were not available. But within a year or so they were. This will happen with Ulta Lights as well.

Nice!
There's also a video of the new black diamond cams here:

The cutouts on the #4 looks really cool.

One more video of the black diamond cams as well as a video of the DMM cams can be found here: thebmc.co.uk/2016-the-futur…

from the video - "95 to 120 euros depending on the size" yikes!

plus the lobes look chincy and less durable than current C4 lobes.

In the email I got from the WC designer they said their new design will be less than the current heliums.

25% lighter
25% less durable
25% more cost

I think i will stick with C4

$100 to $130 for the new ultralight c4s? no, way. man. But it sounds like they will still make the regular c4s unless they want to give that market at that price range to WC or DMM.

Math isn't nearly as hard you think, you should give it a try some time.

0.3 64.95 1.25 81.19
0.4 64.95 1.25 81.19
0.5 64.95 1.25 81.19
0.75 64.95 1.25 81.19
1 69.95 1.25 87.44
2 74.95 1.25 93.69
3 74.95 1.25 93.69
4 89.95 1.25 112.44
5 114.95 1.25 143.69
6 124.95 1.25 156.19

Assuming the price of C4's will remain constant and the new price of UL's is exactly 25% more for every size.

Wow, so quick with the snarky comment.

From the video:

Skip to 1:25 if you don't have the attention span.

Price range 95 to 120 euros.

That comes out to be 100 to 130 US dollars.

Don't know where you are pulling your numbers out of.

Are you in Europe? US consumers don't buy BD C4's converted from Euros to dollars.

I pulled those numbers directly from BD's site.

Exactly my thought haha. If you look at prices now for C4's or WC friends the price is about the same for euros as it is US. It's about $72 for a cam in the U.S. and they charge about €72 in European countries. So no crazy conversions

idk but when i look at them i think of a leggo toy cam

Only a hand full of climbers pay full price for gear though. I don't think I have ever bought a cam at full price, the most I have paid was 20% off retail normally more off than that.

Still I am not about to touch ultra lights. Maybe if i get to the point of need 3 sets of all cams and a route that takes alot of big cams but I have no problem taking doubles up from 0.5 to 3s and some singles down to 0.2 and up to 5s when it comes to weight.

I would save the extra 300-500$ for gas =) and if you are lucky maybe they well sell the old ones for even cheaper to make room for the new ones that I don't want.

More than likely they will master cams have been on sale everywhere lately with the planned release of their new version, just wait for the sales.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
