Hi people of the Forum :)

I went rock climbing in Colorado with a friend and fell in LOVE!! I'd really like to go again, but in my own neck of the woods. I live in a northern suburb of ATL, so I am pretty accessible to lots of potential places.

If anyone would like to be my official rock climbing guru, I'd love to learn more about the sport. Plus, make a new friend(s).

Thanks guys!!
LG

I recognize that rock. Boulder Falls still closed?

Good luck with partners and such in Georgia. I really recommend going to the local rock gym for a while and just having fun gaining strength. Then take a class on technique or leading skills there at the gym. You will probably make friends there in a safe setting that will take you outside too.

Actually i predict that this yung lady will have absolutely no shortage of finding partners or mentors

To the yung lady ...

Since yr likely to yr pick of male climbing partners ... Ask around about who is "safe" and good to learn from

Theres plenty of sketchy folks out there ... And creepy ole men ... I should know as im a durty ole AZN man !!!!

Alpine clubs are a good way to start ... Gyms are so so for outdoors, youll meet good folks and really unsafe show offs

;)

There's a pretty good group of people that meet most tuesdays and some thursdays around 6 or 6:30 at Atlanta Rocks off of 75. Great for building up strength and meeting new mentors! Like bearbreeder said, gyms can be iffy for finding partners for going outside, but most of the regulars in the group who've been climbing for a while are pretty level headed and safe, and the the ones who haven't are easy to pick out. They (both staff and climbers) are very friendly to beginners.

Stone summit in Kenessaw or ITP are also nice gyms. They cater much more to beginners, but are a lot bigger so it might be harder to meet new people there.

And welcome to the sport!

Thanks all!

@Lex Bally...are you apart of the Atlanta Rocks 6pm group? It'd be nice to know someone and just sort of, add myself in :) But thank you, I will look into the other gyms. I'm excited to start. I've been doing it in leisure for years, this will be the first time wanting to buy equipment and really have at it!!

After a trip or two to the gym, it might be worth reading mountainproject.com/v/how-l….

I crash the Atlanta Rocks party every two weeks or so, when my usual partner can't make it out. Atlanta Rocks is great because you can ask whoever's working the desk at the time (decent chance it's the owner) if anyone's looking for a partner, and they'll direct you to someone competent at belaying. That said, yes, I'll probably be there tomorrow.

Neato! I will check that site out for sure @rgold.

Thanks @Lex Bally. I will have to venture down to AR and mingle a little. Never had problems making friends, just would be nice to know someone!

Thank you all for the tips and advice :)

Not a site (unfortunately---such a site would be a good idea), just another discussion thread on this site.

You may want to consider staying in the gym for the next few months. Outdoors in the south atm kinda sux. The humidity will make it really difficult to climb most things outdoors so just remember when it gets colder you will likely climb better so don't get frustrated.

As in last sat we were out climbing and I got a new 5.11+ done than 11am hit and 5.9s that we have climbed in our sleep started feeling hard.

I run a rockclimbing group that meets on sundays around 12:30 or 1pm at Stone Summit Atlanta. This is our comunication group if interested: facebook.com/groups/1865503…

Nice group of people of all skill levels.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
