I am in the market for a new pair of either trail runners or approach shoes. Any recommendations?

I like to seek out more difficult fun rock moves when I'm on a ridge scramble -- not just "get through" it. So I prefer approach shoes with "sticky" climbing rubber. (Another option is to get less sticky rubber, with the ideas that it will not wear out as fast -- so far I have not gone for that, and Yes my soles do wear out).
Another issue is tightness of fit for climbing performance versus getting blisters when running (esp downhill?). I think if you do your ridge scrambles / runs often enough, you get calluses in the right places. But often I don't maintain sufficient continuity of frequency.
Another approach is to get approach shoes fitting big enough to be pretty comfortable for running -- but insert a thicker insole or sock for a tigher fit during climbing sections. I think one manufacturer actually designed one of their shoe models for this. So far I've tried the "temporary thicker insole" idea -- seems to work. Not as good as a dedicated rock shoe -- I do notice the extra thickness in the sole at first -- but after a few minutes I seem to forget and just focus on climbing.
