Mountain Project or Porno Project?

By doing so, it no longer shows up in the "pictures of the moment" slide-show on the home page of mountain project. (Many thanks again to the maintainers of mountain project for providing this feature.) And now here's another picture to which I'll be giving one star... mountainproject.com/v/10637… I don't really find the picture that offensive at all, but it's not safe for work, and I don't appreciate running into these kinds of pictures all the time. Do we really have to upload this kind of crap? Am I the only one who feels this way? Let the flaming begin! :)
I feel like we already had this argument a few year ago? Can't find the thread though, am I dreaming?

It probably deteriorated so much it had to be deleted. I vaguely remember it too. It is where Nick suggested that those with such sensitivities could use the one star feature to block what they didn't want to see.

Many great works of art are of nudes.

Michelangelo's 'David'
The Sistine Chapel

Guess that's porn on the ceiling of one of the most famous churches in existence?

SYK, porn needs to have a sexual aspect, not just nudity.

I'm fine with the pics you cited. I'm also fine with them being eliminated from this site, understanding we are not all adults here. I also noticed a couple of site that cater to those of us who want to see naked pics, and can go there for my fix.

You are nearly alone. +15 for all of the mormon comments, lol. To OP: Grow up and stop crying - this is the internet. As others said, this is a climbing website.

Insisting upon independance from moral codes which repose exclusively upon religious conviction in a purely non-violent way is a form of inquisition?
I invite you to educate yourself.

I don't get it. Who works in an environment where it is cool to slack off to MP but unacceptable to have an image of a women's back? It's artsy and far from porn. Patagonia's newest catalog has a naked couple covered only with 70m ropes and again it is not porn and a mainstream publication. I'd say instead of asking a climbing website with a well established cast of characters to be policed my themselves/mods to simply not check it at work. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I hope it didn't cause you any problems at work.

This discussion has already been had and was originally brought up by the original poster.

There was a request to have the pictures be hidden. The "star vote" was what was introduced as the solution.

Why are we doing this again?

Easy way to handle this is to not indulge. What you see as sin will never be extinguished by man, so live within it as best you can, sinner.

Maybe there should be a Porn Project, too, to go with all the other sites.

Maybe the OP should change his user name to "Censorparkin".

If you don't want to see the slideshow on the homepage, add the following CSS to your browser stylesheet.

#rspCol700 > table:nth-child(1) > tbody > tr > td:nth-child(1) {

There is no obligation to be on mountain project when you are at work. I guess I don't see the issue. If you find content of a website, whether it's mountain project or otherwise, offensive or unfit for a work environment, don't log on.

And OP - you do realize we're all naked under our clothes, right?

None of MP is work safe for me, because my job description involve getting paid to browse MP.

Mountaineering is one of the most dangerous past times around. As a community we tolerate and sometimes even encourage extremely high risk activities, with questionable benefit to those not immediately involved.

Now with that backdrop of a sport rife with death, you're concerned about some lady showing a little back?

Lets just recap on some things that happen in mountaineering that some parents or coworkers in society might feel are 'obscene' or 'offensive' or 'disgusting':

- Men spooning. Men wanting to be the middle spoon

- A general acceptance of nudity - we don't pack private changing room tents, nor showers. Sometimes naked in a river or lake is the way to go, or outside your tent with a pathetically small pot of warm water

- Getting your dick out to piss in your nalgene bottle, within 2' of your male partners face

- Shitting in a ziplock bag within 3' of your male partner (two man tents are small, portaledges are small)

- Wandering around the countryside with ziplock bags of your own shit

- Body parts being amputated because the tissue has died, but people celebrated for not quitting and keeping up the activity that lead to the amputation

- Various other nasty injuries and events, shattered bones, people being left for dead only to crawl out later, man drinking his own piss for a while then cutting his own arm off with a blunt knife,

- Corpses in varying degrees of decay. Be they showing up in spring, or frozen in place for all to see (greenboots?)

Take photos of any of the above activities, and you've captured some of what happens on mountaineering trips, but you've also captured a set of images that are going to offend someone and aren't going to be safe for a lot of work places.

I don't really think there's a way to capture the sport accurately *and* be work safe. I suggest we don't even try.

Now if that bare back had been in an office building, sure, that's off topic for MP.
But, sitting around by a river in the sun drinking - that seems a fine enough example of some of the things that happen on climbing trips.

I think that picture is awesome because it shows something about the lightheartedness I like to associate with climbing and after climbing activities.

If you don't see past the fact that the woman doesn't have clothes on, yet is not particularly sexual, I think it speaks more to what you see than what is there.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
