Moving to Minneapolis. Looking for somebody to take over operations of my guiding service, or possibly selling it outright to the right person(s).

Chicago Rock & Ice Guides

Chicago is an underserved market and with recent additions to the indoor climbing scene this market will continue to expand. Over the last year (or more) I haven't had the time to dedicate to my business that I would have liked and moving makes it ever more challenging.

I'm looking for a motivated individual to take over general operations in the Chicago market, including the guiding itself but also local PR (marketing, communication, etc.). This individual shall have significant climbing experience (rock and ice), AMGA SPI or similar preferred. Training, other than a couple outings to observe and co-lead, will not be provided. Current first aid and CPR endorsements (minimum) required. Work load and compensation will be proportionate to the effort invested. Equipment, permits, and marketing support will be provided. The right individual will love the sport and love sharing it with others.

The website will be updated and reconfigured to be mobile friendly by the end of summer. I also fully expect to launch a Twin City branch of the guide service that I will operate.

Contact me if you're interested!

Cheers.

Responded to a couple messages. Haven't found the right fit yet.

Great opportunity to get experience guiding and being apart of a small business without having to front the money. Lots of potential.

Looking at your website, you're advertising a climb on the Middle Sister in the Oregon Cascades. Are you permitted to guide in Deschutes National Forest?

Max.

I appreciate your concern. That was posted and advertised to gauge interest in a western mountaineering/alpine trip in 2014 that never materialized.

When CRIG was conceived several years ago I wanted to offer destination trips where my clients and I could build a rapport locally on single pitch rock/ice and then travel out west for a larger objective, either obtaining my own permits for those locations or partnering with another service. When people travel for guided big mountain outings they are typically meeting their guide(s) within hours of their scheduled departure. My offering would have given potential clients another option.

Max's concern, and mine, is that you're offering trips that you don't have the permits for. A common scenario is that non-local guides just pirate the terrain. It's not a huge deal, but it's annoying. By the way, you'll soon be giving up AMGA membership by guiding outside of your educational scope of practice. Again, that only matters as much as you'd like it to.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
