I had a few credit cards stolen in Boulder canyon last fall but they were nice enough to leave the cash. They bought some sneakers at Dicks Sporting Goods soon after. Pricks.
If one was angry enough you could make your car an attractive nuisance with maybe a window down just far enough to get an arm in and unlock it from the inside and wait patiently.

We finally had the police catch one of the scumbags breaking into cars at Garden of the Gods recently, so one down for a bit.

In total about 300.00 of gear was stolen: 10 quickdraws - 5 orange/silver CAMP, and 5 silver ultralight CAMP carabiners with DMM dyneema 1 blue GriGri 1 metolius harness 2 black diamond dyneema with locking BD carabiners If you guys happen to see this particular stuff selling on CL could you PM, I would like to report it Thanks in advance.
Thanks a lot for the heads-up. I used to always park my van with tons of gear at the dome parking lot. Today I cleaned all of my gear out of my car. Do you think it is safer to park your car before the canyon? There is a parking lot right where you often encounter a white van takes radar pictures.
As long as you have your van locked I would think that is safer than keeping your van locked in a less public pull-out.
The problem with our situation was that we parked in a pull out by cascade rock and since it was a jeep with the car doors removed, even though our gear was in the back of the jeep hidden it was definitely accessible. So, someone saw the car by its lonesome and decided to pull off and loot it essentially. Just didn't expect it because climbers usually don't steal but because of the high amount of traffic there are probably some POS that make a regular sweep up and down the canyon, since its possible to essentially walk away with a grand of re-sellable gear with two hands.

What could possibly go wrong with this scenario? Next time just put your stuff out on the road...seriously, I hope you didn't lose much in the way of expensive gear, but you're lucky the whole vehicle wasn't taken.
