As announced here, two weeks ago MP announced it would match all memberships and gifts to the Access Fund, up to $50,000.

You guys stepped up and contributed $74,645, for a total combined gift of $124,645!

I'm proud to be part of this community that can rally around a critical resource that helps us all enjoy our sport!

It is, of course, never too late: accessfund.org/join-or-give

I WANT MY $$ BACK!!
This is so cool, is there a better community? Way to go; let's make it annual?
Nice work Nick et al.

Does anyone know what access fund would typically raise over a similar 15 day period? It would be really cool to see a graph of funds raised June 15-30 for the past decade and huge spike this year (if it is a huge spike).

Annual Member dues account for $452k/year...
That would imply that indeed, June was a very very good month.

That's a lot to ask from one guy... but the rest of us can renew our memberships annually! I have since 1992.

Welll....i did the old ass-u-me. Figured there was a correlation between REI and the AF raiser. Not? I would like to see REI corp spend more of it's $$ on things like AF.

It was a personal donation from one of the site owners...

Not that REI hasn't been good to the AF and to the BCC BTW - they have given both MAJOR grants and funding...

It was at least a 500% spike over normal.

And to another question, REI gives the AF around $50,000/year separately from this effort, and $4,600,000 last year alone to about 300 outdoor organizations .

Since I'm in Boulder, I happen to know that in 2015, REI just gave the Boulder Climbing Community $10k, up from $5k in years past. It makes a real difference to our local climbing!

That's really impressive. Congrats to MP for pulling it off.

I've seen it mentioned, in several places now, that a fairly small proportion of the climbing community are Access Fund members. I'm always willing to donate more during these fund matching campaigns. If REI did it's regular donations to Access Fund by advertising a fund matching campaign such as this they'd probably raise a lot more money for the organization, recruit more lifetime members, and get good PR. Seems like a win-win-win.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
