I've been a gym rat for the almost two years that I've been climbing. Though I've been out to Carver for bouldering, I haven't been sport climbing outdoors yet and I really want to learn more about it. I have a year of experience leading and lead belaying in the gym, and currently climb around 5.11c in gym, V6 bouldering. I live near Portland and was hoping to go to Broughton or somewhere within an hour and a half drive. Thanks y'all!

What gym do you climb at amigo?

Lets linkup and Ill give you some info, or we can meetup and head out as soon as you're feeling like you can handle this heat.

Cant say I could "show ya the ropes" with top roping, as I don't own any, but hey, maybe we could pitch in on some and split the rope. Its pretty expensive.

Been outdoors for bouldering and top roping in the area, just starting to get comfortable with lead. I climb 5.11ish & v6, higher or lower by a grade depending on how much junk food I've been snacking on.

Lets hit some local crags! I got gas money

That'd be cool, though do you lead at all? I'm looking for someone to teach me about cleaning sport routes after leading, setting up anchors and top ropes

My fault for misreading!
I've been out to sport top, but never lead or clean. Wish ya luck to finding someone. Hoping to get the same experience.
Good luck

Hey Ryan - I just moved out to the gorge (Hood River, specifically) about half a month ago. I'm a New England climber, with a full NE trad rack - meaning a set of cams, two of nuts, and some tricams. Along with some other random gear that I've picked up as souvenirs from various places that I've traveled.

I don't have any real knowledge of this section of the US though, and I'd love a partner to climb with! I can lead trad and sport, either multi or single pitch, though I'm not sure about the ratings out here. Back in New England I was leading 10s and occasionally flailing on a 12 in the gym... but I wouldn't be comfortable going above a 5.7 or 5.8 outdoors, at least until I get a feel for the ratings in the area.

What sort of outdoor experience do you have? What gear can you bring out? I've got basically everything, but you'd need the usual personal gear and preferably a personal anchor as well.

Ben,
Sounds like a potential rad fit. Outside I sport lead 10s and am willing to start leading some 11s, in the gym occasion flailing on a 12 sounds bout right. Trad has been mostly just following and I'm ready to start learning some leading. I don't have a rack tho am getting ready to take that plunge as well.. I have a rope, draws, etc for sport climbing. I've been doing some alpine climbing, mtns, summits, mixed rock snow some ice, most of the rock on those have been low class 5 (following my partner) or class 4 soloing (with pack, boots, etc still a different ballgame)..

I'd love to have a regular gym lead partner, get some more outdoor sport cragging going on, start leading some trad, and continue to deepen my alpine game (leading/following trad )

Tues Wednesdays are my best days for outside (and Friday) otherwise, evenings or mid day in gym is possible

Whatchu think?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
