I have a strong bouldering friend who climbs V9's and I invited him to go trad climbing with me in Joshua Tree. His reply, "Fuck that. Trad climbing is for pussies. It's basicly just vertical hiking with a bunch of gear." I can't wait just get him on a "easy" 5.9 some day and destroy his ego.

All had harnesses and one quickdraw, someone would solo the pitch, set up a fixed rope and everyone else would climb with just the quickdraw clipped into the fixed line. After seeing a couple kids slip and catch themselves by grabbing the fixed line, I asked one of the adults what would happen if they fall (knowing the answer was a possible 60ft slab fall with the draw sliding down the rope till it hit the anchor of two drilled angles), he said, oh the carabiner will catch them, but they wont fall. Somehow no one fell or died during the 175ft free hanging rappel, during which someone at the bottom was running around with the ends of the ropes, causing the rappeller to swing wildly
Oh dear Jesus... That's amazing.

I was hiking up the trail to Little Si and I started hearing some guy grunting very loudly. Than we all hear the climber yell, "Take me John! Take me hard!".

I hesitate to guess what the many hikers thought was going on.

Girl telling me about her first lead climb earlier that day 'I lead my first route and took my first fall, I even broke a clip which extended my fall' apparently she broke a carabiner then said ' yeah I borrowed the clips from my friend and he didn't tell me how old they were.' I said carabiners don't break because of age, and asked her if she nose hooked the carabiner on the hanger to which she said 'no I don't think so I think it's just because the clips were old'

You need another piece for the anchor. You should always have at least two

Nope. We're using this 3' wide tree. It we rip it out there isn't a cam in the world that will help us.

Overheard a guy say this as he was leading/flailing up a 5.7 at NRG's Beer wall, "They must have changed the beta on this route"

when climbers (mostly sport or boulder) try to give you a detailed explanation of all the moves involved in the route "dude like i hit the gaston and then heel hooked the crimper then hit the dyno to the jug but ended up having to take!"

Another from the King and Queens Seat at Rocks State Park...

I am over at the beginner wall setting up a TR anchor to bring a friend climbing for his first time outside of a gym. As I am teaching my friend about the anchor a climber freesolo's over the lip of one of the taller cliffs. He walks over to us and strikes up a conversation. Ive provided the narrative below.

Climber: Hey guys!

Me: Hey, how are you?

Climber: Don't mind me! I'm just checking out your TR anchor... I don't know man.. Ive never really felt safe enough to trust a TR system while I'm climbing...

Me: Uhh, weren't you just Freesoloing??

Climber: Well yeah...

Me: Get out of here man...
