Public Meeting on (Little) Granite Mountain - Scottsdale - climbing map

Hi folks,

This is a public meeting on the climber map for (Little) Granite Mountain in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Same thing I publicized a while back but a last chance for input. Our goal would be to identify the climbing crags we want and the conceptual access approaches from the main City trails to the crags in a manner similar to how the crags accessed from the Tom's Thumb Trail Head were laid out.

The City of Scottsdale is seeking comments on the draft Rock Climbing Plan for the Granite Mountain area of the Scottsdale Preserve. The plan includes the historically climbed crags at Granite Mountain, and the routes used to access those climbs. City of Scottsdale Staff will be at AZ on the Rocks – Indoor Climbing, Inc. on Thursday, July 9th, 2015, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM to discuss the proposed plan, answer questions, and take your feedback. AZ on the Rocks is located at 16447 N. 91st Street, Suite 105, Scottsdale, AZ, 85260. Please stop by and take a look at the plan and offer your feedback. The McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission will consider the plan at their meeting on July 15th. Here is the link to the Commission meeting agenda. For questions about the plan, please contact Scott Hamilton, Preserve Planner for the City of Scottsdale at (480) 312-7722 or shamilton@scottsdaleAZ.gov.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the meeting on the 9th. However, would it be possible to put in an idea to "link" some of the areas by establishing a higher trail?

For instance, linking the Harp Wall to The Roost and then to the Mogul wall?

I think this would help alleviate any non-sanctioned "social trails" that often happen when crags are that close together and people want to climb at multiple areas in a day. Especially since you've already made the approach up the hill, it's always a bummer to need to go back down to then go back up again. Food for thought.

Cheers,
Mac

Mac,
Excellent point. I'll make the formal input for that suggestion.
I've also "linked" Lost Bandana with The Cone areas along the ridgeline, which already has existing game trails. There is a precedent in the Tom's Thumb area where Lost Wall, Lost in the Air and the Rist are linked back to Tom's Thumb crag along the ridgeline so climbers wouldn't have to return to the base and re-ascend.
Thanks!
Erik
