From someone who has never roped up or bouldered before then tried bouldering. (Im sure somebvery high grades have by done by first tine boulderers who are experienced sports climbers.

Id think someone who is extremely strong and in great shape could post something impressive

We saw Chris Lindner lead Robbin's Crack (5.10a) at Mt. Woodson at the tender age of four years. Actually, just prior to his fourth birthday. Also, our son's friend, Julius climbed a 5.10a/b with us on his 1st climb outdoors.

^whoa^

My first climb was a 9 at Alabama Hills in tight tennis shoes.

True story. I was in diapers. Not yet walking. Pulled open the kitchen cabinet drawers and made way on top of the counter. From there I mantled up into the cupboard, I was then able to pull out and top off on the fridge. I was too curious. Cried for help. Stuck.

Probably just a good 5.6 mantle now. But more intense then.

Hey James, I'm pretty sure those we're legit responces and not douchey at all. What's up your ass? Did your meth high wear off? (Now that was douchey, see the difference?)

It's more of a heroin problem in Vermont.

Honestly, James, I think you are a little off base calling this responses douchy.

In any case, about 5.9 is the hardest I've seen a first time climber do, without climbing shoes. I don't know about bouldering.

Not a first time climber by any means, but one of the more impressive firsts I've heard of was Kevin Jorgeson sending 12c in JTree (sandbag city) his first week of trad climbing.

11C, lead. Some Yabo route at Castle Rock, CA (I don't think its on MP). Very short, very light, very strong dude. Took him to Red Rocks not much later and he was pulling on 11's and 12's like he had been climbing for years. Although he had been doing some bouldering in our local college gym...

Gym V4/5 (not soft), overhung thug-and-dyno problem by 20 year-old female gymnast who had never tried any kind of climbing before. Her feet cut about 6 times and she just pulled back on. At one point she was hanging on one arm, feet off, for about 30 seconds halfway up the wall and asking her boyfriend what holds were on. Other people in the gym were pushing her on harder and harder climbs just to figure out her limit. Her athleticism and grace were incredible, she had nutso core power, and she didn't know basic footwork. Really entertaining to watch. She had much more trouble on vertical stuff.

I'm guessing indoor decent-hold powerful climbing is the best shot for somebody extremely athletic... outdoor climbing just requires more specific finger strength and technique. Maybe if you'd put her on some ultrajuggy hueco roof thing she could have done something on her first day.

I think within a year she was climbing V8s or something like that outdoors....

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.

Bouldering
