Trying to plan a last minute trip for the 4th of july weekend.

We're thinking either Alaska or Montana. Does anyone know what parts of Montana would be fun to visit? Some easy approach (< 2 hour) climbing or mountain biking would be nice. What about Alaska?

Unless you're flying into the range or want to do the tourist gig I'd pass on Alaska. Not much climbing along the road system, but then if you just want to say you climbed in AK then it might be worth it.

FYI, it's mighty hot up there right now and a lot of fires burning.

Hot as he!! in Montana too, at least in the Bitterroots. Up to 105F by the weekend and I wouldn't be surprised if the fire season ramps up soon. The mornings are always cool for a few hours of mtn biking, then stand in the river fly fishing the rest of the day.

I would head to southern hemisphere if you can to hot in the north atm for climbing.

Come on now, Alaska can be fun if you have never been! Plus there is some real decent granite 45 min north of Anchorage. Valdez is also fun if the weather is nice with a good concentration of recently developed sport climbing and mtn biking.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
