My wife and I are considering accepting a transfer with my job to Anchorage. I'd like to hear from some current or former residents what the climbing scene is really like for those who work fairly standard hours. I.e., what are the gyms in the city like, how accessible is good trad, sport, ice, etc. climbing from the city, how many months our of the year can you climb outdoors, etc.
I'd love any other general info about life in Anchorage that's out there too, but I'm mostly interested in climbing at this point. I've lived most recently in Boulder, CO and Oakland, CA -- for comparison-sake.
