Alkaline battery leak

Does anybody have, or could they refer me to, direct information on how exposure to an alkaline battery leak could effect a climbing rope? So far I have not been able to find anything. I do not know of my gear ever being exposed. The question I am trying to answer is what risks are associated with packing our headlamps with our climbing gear.

Use a lithium ion battery

Of course that could explode

The possibility of this seems so remote, I'm wondering why you are concerned?

Wouldn't your batteries be contained in a headlamp or other device that would provide an additional barrier against leakage? If you were really concerned, place everything with batteries in a Zip-loc baggie.

Don't worry about packing headlamps with climbing gear/ropes.

Check out the rope facts and the effects of chemicals and cleaning on ropes at rockandice.com or google...how to wash my rope, for lots of great rope information.

It never really crossed my mind until I found residue from a AAA battery leak in the pocket of my haul bag. That made me curious.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
