4x4 to climbing suggestions
|
I'm headed out west to Cali, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Colorado over the next 2 months. Pretty flexible with heading wherever. I'm wondering if there are spots to 4x4 in my jeep up some not overly difficult jeep trails or forest roads to remote camping and climbing. I explore the mountains every year but have never been able to combine the 4x4ing and climbing. Any suggestions? |

A gem (outside of the Ghost Wilderness in Canada which would include most of my favorites in this category) of combining the two that will always be at the top in my memory is Cooler than Jesus route on Top of the World near Moab. I stopped my FJ short of the top as it became faster to hike up the road...but the photo op is to rap in off of your hitch (vs a small tree). Good luck on your trip. |

Try Mt. Pacifico in the Angeles National Forest north of La Cananda, CA. The road requires a 4X4, there's a great campground, and includes bouldering, TRing, and lead climbing. It's off the beaten path. |

shuteye ridge in CA would be a must do for ya - past highcamp/Shangri la has great jeepin, camping and climbing. lots of other crags with 4x or high clearance access out there too. |

Easier but cool is the Blanca-Little bear traverse (5.2?) but a mile long at 14,000' |

Anywhere in the San Rafael Swell UT has great climbing and great 4x4 trails. |
