123mountain- anyone buy from them?

I made the mistake of ordering a rope from this company, whom I have never heard of, because it seemed like a good deal. Used a credit card to order & later got an e-mail saying that they can't accept credit cards for "non returnable items" and asking for an alternative form of payment-specifically, Bitcoin, Western Union, a bank transfer, etc.
I don't do Bitcoin and am not willing to give out my bank account and routing numbers, so I cancelled the order.
Googled the company afterwards and they have MANY really horrible reviews.
Anyone have any experience ordering from this company?

I have bought several things from them (2 pair of boots, ice axe, set of quickdraws,) with no issues.

That's good to know.
I've just never had an online merchant request payment via bank transfer, Western Union or Bitcoin. They always accept CCs. Seemed strange and I saw some really bad reviews on Yelp (after the fact).
I'd have maybe been OK with PayPal if they had offered that option but don't want to give anyone my banking account and routing number.

I have bought a few things from them with few problems. A few known issues: they list items as "available" and "in stock". "Available" means they will try to get it from the manufacturer for you, but it's not actually in their warehouse. It may not even be in the United States. Who knows when you'll actually get it. "In stock" means you'll probably get it quickly. They are not clear about that distinction. The other issue I've heard regards refunds. In the case of orders that need to be returned or orders for "available" stuff that takes forever, good luck getting your money back. It may happen quickly. It may never happen unless you dispute it with the CC company.

Not trying to trash them or anything but was uncomfortable with the whole experience and the request for payment via atypical methods.
I think this may be indicitive of cash flow issues? I know CC transactions can delay merchants getting paid & they have to pay a fee.
They cancelled my order without issue.

They have terrible customer service, I would never order from them again...I ordered some mountain hardwear pants from them, and they didnt fit. I understood i couldn't return them because they were on sale, but all i wanted to do was exchange them for a different size, and they wouldn't do it. I told them that I would pay for whatever shipping to and from them but they still wouldn't let me exchange the pants. Now im stuck with a pair of pants I cant use. I hope they go out of business, there are to many great online retailers for them to have such terrible customer service. The guy on the phone was a real douche as well...never again.

Their online reviews are about as bad as any I've ever seen.

i mean, really, what online merchant asks you to pay by Bitcoin? Or Western Union? Or any other method besides credit cards or PayPal?

More likely, they don't want people to have the option of disputing the charge with their CC company. Bitcoin doesn't offer any sort of buyer protection once the transaction has been made.

Or they've had so many disputes in the past that they can no longer get a merchant account. All speculation, of course, but those reviews are pretty damning.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
