I am planning a trip to Sandstone MN 4th of July weekend with some family. I plan on toproping in Sandstone and am wondering if anyone knows if the routes that are topropable are able to be set on top of the cliff or do I have to downclimb to set?
If anyone would like to climb with us (especially if you know the area) pm me.

I've only climbed there once but when I was there I saw a guy sling a tree, set up an anchor, rappel down, and solo top-rope a route on the Sax wall. Maybe it was No Such Thing as Too Much Sax? Towards the right side of that wall, they all have super similar names. It seems like there might be other routes that you could do that for but I don't actually know for sure. I didn't actually go on top of the cliff, I just walked in and lead routes.
If I'm around I'm pretty close to sandstone and would be happy to lead and put up some ropes for you. Sounds like a good time.
Yeah, many of the routes are able to be climbed via toprope . An easy trail heads up to the top and you can put draws through most of the anchors ( no trees need to be slung)relatively easily. Sandstone is usually busy on weekends so you wont have a problem catching a ride up on someones rope or your own if you set one.
OK, good to know! I really didn't want to have to wrap my rope around a tree to get to the anchors, so that's good to know. I plan on climbing diagonals wall, but may try out sax wall, too.
I haven't done any sport climbing, so I wouldn't be able to safely belay you Bryan. It's next on my list, though! My brother is my climbing partner and he has only been climbing for 3-4 months.
