i guess I don't understand how or why these are different. Can anyone explain?

One side is wider than the other... Allows them to fit in different placements that often don't take a regular nut or cam well.

I use to think offset nut were silly. Then I bought some dmm alloys, and now I find my self reaching for the offsets, more often than my normal nut set.

Now do not think about leaving the ground with out my precious offset's.

Amen. They will stick in places where nothing else will even hesitate: pin scars, funny flares, etc. More than worth the weight they add, which is minimal.

just buy them.

Most useful sizes for me are peenut 4, 5, Alloy offset 7, 8, 9,

You can choose the suitable size for the situation.

Yup, I don't leave the ground without the DMM Offsets anymore.
I also found the 2 largest brass offsets come in handy.

After owning the DMM offsets for about 2 years, I don't carry regular nuts anymore. These 5 nuts are enough in more than 90% of the situations I find myself in.

Off-sets were recommended to me on here when I was putting my rack together. They're really nice to have and get used often. I bought these and a set of peanuts instead of a second set of regular nuts. It was good advice.

Has anyone used the Wild Country Super Light Offsets?
How do they compare to the DMM. They look nice. I already have the DMM alloy offsets and don't need them I am just curious.

The DMMs are the Hugh Banner design, they are amazing. First look I don't think the Wild Country design are as good. The dimples/ irregular surfaces on the DMMs are what helps them seat so well in flares/scars.

The DMM Alloy Offsets are nearly twice as strong as the WC Superlight Offsets (12kn vs. 7kn) and BOTH sides of the DMM have offset taper. The DMM Offsets are also larger sized offsets in that the WC is only offset in its narrow side. The DMM color coding is also more accurate in its offset size as a blue DMM is roughly the same size as a blue Wallnut or WC Rock. The Alloy Offsets are also considerably larger (roughly two sizes) in their narrow dimension.

As for Peenuts, they are not nearly as useful as WC Superlight Rocks, which would complete a set of WC Offsets, on their alternate side but have more contact area the the small WC's do and are rated at 9kn rather than just 6kn.

The DMM offsets are also more durable if cleaned with a tool than the WC as they use stronger cables. Especially true with Peenuts vs. Superlight rocks.

Hope that helps!

DMM offsets to double up on the fingers/tips sizes (roughly BD stopper #6-9ish) come in handy a lot of places.

For the thin stuff I *really* like a mix -- RPs 2-4, offset RPs 3-5. Smaller nut placements tend to be more finicky in my experience.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
