Can anybody let me know how these two cams compare size and range wise? Also, where does the old #5 camalot fit into this mix?

On the left side, click the link that says COMPARE and it shows the sizes of the C4 AND the older camalots overlaid.

Someone near me has a #6 brand new with tags still attached. Sling is dated 2011. I offered him $50 to which he replied "not even close". In your opinion was is a good offer? Keep in mind that I will not use this often at all. Thanks J5

$75 is probably a more fair offer.

The old 4.5 and new 5 are almost exactly the same size. They are definitely interchangeable and I wouldn't suggest trying to use one to fill in the gaps on the other.

The old 5 is a little smaller than the new 6. I have an old 4.5, an old 5, and then a #6 tech friend. The old 5 fits the gap between the 4.5 and the friend very well.

And based on Clyde's chart (which aims for usable size ranges) comparing with absolute sizes from here assuming some vague level of constancy, then the absolute range for the old camalots 3.5-5 are:

#,      Min,      Max

3.5,  62.9,      107.0

4,     77.2,     129.4

4.5,  84.8,     148.1

5,     108.6,   176.7

These are not based on actually measuring and are approximate (and I probably should be rounding to the nearest mm anyway but don't feel like actually propagating uncertainty)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
