Don't expect to live in Boulder for sure. Rents, even in Denver's suburbs are WAY up. Typical small 2 bedrooms are $2000/month. If you want to live in any Denver neighborhoods, even if you can find an apartment they are outrageous. And parking and traffic are really bad. Not trying to dissuade you (even though I am sick of the influx of people) - just know what you are getting yourself into.
Reminds me of Hawaii, except the traffic is 3x as bad as Denver and that $2000 a month apartment is $3000 in Hawaii.

Anyway, I would suggest looking at the employment statistics for your field in various areas to determine what might be a good fit.

We were living near Congress park in a rented condo with a 1 car garage AND our own washer and dryer (this can actually be a big deal) when our landlords (both doctors) decided to move BACK IN because they couldn't find a home! We did the same house hunt and got outbid many times - and were offering quite a bit over asking price. We gave up but as a last ditch effort scored a place out East Colfax (ghetto).

When we lived in our condo they renovated an apt building right next to us - small 2 bedrooms there were only $1850 but included NO PARKING (bad news), no garage or storage and only a small building Laundromat to share. Silly but it sold out instantly...

I read an article the other day that Colorado now has something like over 500 breweries - crazy but hey we love beer so...

It IS worth coming here but you are probably going to want to hit up the suburbs if you are on the front range.

I have friends who climb and work in the hospitality industry and share a place in CB and they love it...

Or Live on the western slope and work ski resorts in winter and Moab in Summer :)

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
