The Promised Land is hard to find but contains fun sport climbing. Try to find a local to get you there for your first time and pay attention to
all the turns, cattle guards and gates on the way in and out if you care to find it again on your own.
Groom Creek has fun, short, high desert granite boulder problems and is close to town. It's a bit higher altitude than town so the temps are a little more reasonable on hot days, especially mornings and evenings.
Skull Valley is about 10 miles west of Prescott and from what I remember (I lived there about 10 years ago) has some decent potential for bouldering development. From what little I remember, the boulders can be up to 20-30 feet tall which is about twice the size of the Groom Creek boulders. They're much more spread out than GC as well. It's very remote; let someone know where you are, bring lots of water and a friend if you can, and definitely
don't get lost, especially in the summer.
Last pieces of beta: Prescott College's student body contains a lot of climbers; I don't know how many are around this time of year though. Last I knew, there was some sort of Prescott Climber's Association possibly led by a very friendly guy named Bill ?????? who published a couple guidebooks/maps for Groom Creek. There may or may not be some sort of truth to that last sentence.
Good luck, have fun and chase shade this time of year!
