Ever hired a private guide for the Gunks? Please step inside....

Hello Climbers!

I'll be flying into the area for work and I've been trying unsuccessfully to join up with a group to climb with.

I don't want to miss this opportunity to climb the Gunks so I'm willing to resort to hiring a private guide to take me out there and provide the equipment.

Has anyone used a guide before out here? Or can recommend one? Better yet, anyone want to split a private guide with me for a full day of climbing?

I can climb any day from June 20-22.

Jim Shimberg from Rhino Guides is a good reliable source, based in NH but has been climbing at the Gunks for decades!

They can hardly get 2 days from now correct. I wouldn't even think about it until Wednesday, and usually for me Thursday evening before I decide on plans for the weekend.

Another thing to keep in mind - the Gunks drain and dry pretty quick.

The forecast calls for 30% chance right now, that's their way of saying this far out "we see indications of possible rain on these days". It's certainly not a guarantee.

My wife and I hired Andrew with High Exposure last September. We had a great couple days. Neither of us had been to the Trapps. Andrew showed us around, taught us a few things and was very encouraging. I would recommend Andrew to anyone and would hire him again.

But in the gunks go to the guides with a history of climbing in the GUNKS!

Stay at the Mohonk mint House, and hire Marty Martolisi's

Alpine Endeavors, they are the only guides that can guide at Sky top . .

All of the guides at the gunks will be good climbers and very nice, some, the best people.

All of the folks who guide try to be the best they can, it is the job.

. The people who are going to be your best fit as a guide, will not be the best fit at first. Some times it takes more time than one weekend to know if it is a good fit. Also as you get to know your own inner voice you may find that your first guide has taken you as far as that person can and fresh eyes will help.

Guides click with
Clients for many reasons and do not get on well with others for just as many reasons.

The difference is in the permission, chosen by Mohonk - to guide at Sky Top!
The ability to take you climbing some where that is a special and an expensive treat.
If you have the money stay at the hotel.

It's happening!!!!! Monday looks dry and I've just booked Mountain Skills as a guide to take me up on some of the classic multipitch routes.

Now, if there's someone who wants to join to split some of the costs, please let me know. I'm staying in the city and will drive in Monday morning.

You going with Doug by any chance? Great guy.

Ended up with Dustin from Mountain Skills. IT WAS AWESOME!! Weather was great and Dustin was a super great guy to hand around with all day cragging. Can't recommend him enough!
