Classic and Iconic Routes

I recently commented on the fall of a portion of Mt. Kinabalu and the loss of a route done by possibly two people, Tinipi 5.15a. I disagreed that a route done by two people can't be classic nor iconic, by definition.

What routes deserve the title iconic or classic? I think of routes popularized and sought after by the community you address. A local test piece is a local test piece until it grows in popularity, then it could become Iconic.

Which routes are both classic and iconic?

first that comes to mind is the Dawn Wall. That is not only iconic but classic. it has only been climbed by 2 people, but has drawn the awe of the world. inspired many and caused modern climbing to breach into the realm of mainstream and accepted. No route in the world has been so influential. Seems to fit the title of classic and/or iconic.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
