Deserve to get their draw back or not?

So a large group (6-8) leaves a draw hanging on the 1st bolt of a route. NOT a project draw, just forgotten when cleaning.
This is pointed out to them, but they still leave the crag with it hanging there.
While cleaning the draw I discover an apple core sitting on the ledge at the base, and several decorative 3 foot high rock cairns. Which I clean up.

Kind of thinking all that forfeits their ownership...

I agree. If they were told and they left it anyway you've done your due diligence.

What did they say when you pointed it out to them?

It's definitely yours. Guilt-free booty.

You disassembled several 3 foot high cairns? That's a lot of labor, Mark. Unless it was Andy Goldsworthy we're talking about, I'd say you actually deserve their entire sport rack for that.

If your feeling guilty about it I will give you my mailing address and you can send it to me.

the fuck is the deal with stacking rocks. Im seeing this in a ton of spots on edit: referring to 'rock balancing' as I see it called. Yeah that would be cool in your yard or like a city park maybe. Not when Im hours into a hike. thanks

Tenpins I totally agree with you. When im off trail peakbagging or downclimbing or something, seeing a cairn can be a huge relief, but there are so many unnecessary ones out there. I kick them down whenever I see them lol.

Or you could just get it back to them like a nice person and passive aggressively comment about their bad behavior. Which is what I would do.

Enjoy your new draw. I support you for kleptomaniacing it. Just make sure that you remove any of that colored tape that some climbers use to distinguish their gear and set it apart from everyone else's. Does anyone else do this? I don't. I feel that nontaped gear looks different from everyone elses' taped gear. Just have a good story about it just in case they see you using it again someday and someone decides to be a prick about getting it back. I had a guy threaten to kick my ass once under similar circumstances. You might be in a six to eight against one situation...unless of course you are like Bruce Lee and can get all Chuck Norris on them.

Honestly I would have been all pro getting it back to them - right up until I read about all the work that was done to restore some of their damage. Enjoy your new draw.

They were told it was there and they understood and left it anyway? Abandoned.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
