Night climbing in McDowell Mountains?

I'm looking to do some night climbing at Sven Slab/Girlie Man in the McDowells because it's getting too hot out. Does anyone know if that's allowed/frowned upon? Thanks

Hi Tim,
Unfortunately for night time users the McDowell Sonoran Preserve is closed sunset to sunrise. This rule is part of City code. The logic is that the Preserve is designed with a primary goal of protecting the natural environment and that night time use would be harmful to the natural patterns of the wildlife.
I know that police patrol the trail heads and will ticket anyone they find trespassing.

p.s. Tim,
Actually, if you are flexible on your time of day and can take a page from construction workers, early mornings are actually pretty cool during all but the hottest days in north Scottsdale. In general it's about 8 to 10 degrees cooler due to the elevation and being outside of the city proper and its heat island.
If you get there near sunrise you'll find lots of hikers and mountain bikers taking advantage of the early mornings there.
Many folks climb through the summer by choosing first light and appropriate crags. If you are interested I can send you route photos of some areas that are lesser known and not described in detail elsewhere. PM me.

Erik,
I was worried that would be the case. Early mornings are the way to go then.
Thanks, Tim

Tim, if you have time to drive and it's not too late, head east to Superior and the Atlantis area for shady cool climbing in early summer.

The wind usually provides a breeze too. It's a bit of an hour drive for me but it's the closest summer escape. Until it gets too humid.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
