I don't see a way to figure out where in the crag a certain route would be. I expected a map of the crag or something to point you in the right direction. Am I missing something?

Typically the routes are arranged L > R on the crag in the app.

One of the major failings of MP in my opinion is that it makes it hard to identify specific climbs at cliffside unless someone has taken it upon themselves to post a topo.

Maybe mountain project could make it a requisite to post a picture when a new route is put online. I notice a lot of descriptions/routes sole uploaded so someone can "tick" it.

I agree, though that might inhibit a lot of the addition of new information. How often do you go to the crag with a camera and never use it (I do this a lot)

Even as a shameless practitioner of the "post and tick" style of route creation, I still think that posts should be informational. I see a lot of bad or utterly inadequate (doesn't matter that they're free, if they don't contain any info other than a name and a grade they are worthless) route descriptions on here. At the very least, sort any new routes accurately within the cliff so that with a little clever cross-referencing of route descriptions one can figure out what they're actually on!

Or buy a guidebook.

Seriously.

Personally, I like wandering around looking for an out-of-the-way route just as much as I enjoy climbing it. If you don't, then just stick to the popular stuff! You'll have more fun.

Climb things that look interesting. Take pictures. When you figure out what you climbed, post the picture. Then others can continue to identify routes based on the landmark you put up. Photos and comments are what make this site work.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
