Hey guys,

I'm looking to take a trip out to redrocks this October with my girlfriend. I'd like to hire an amga guide for some easy-moderate sport climbing for a full day. Any recommendations?

Thx in advance!

Rusty,

I'd recommend Mark Limage of Jackson Hole Mountain Guides. They have a branch in Las Vegas and he is very knowledgeable and personable.

I'd recommend someone from American Alpine Institute. Although he's now the ops manager for AAI, Jason Martin wrote the guidebook for easy/moderates there. What you want is someone to take you to the easy/moderates out of the way of the normal crowded stuff. AAI is very involved with the Red Rock Rendezvous, so they should know the area very well.

I'd recommend Mark Limage as well

I accidentally left a partial rack of gear at the base of a climb a couple years ago. Dan Young found it and went out of his way to get it back to me. He is a stand up guy and a guide here with AAI.

I'd recommend Dan Young. Not only a guide, but also put up the new "classic", Big Bad Wolf.

If you're looking for an AMGA Certified Rock Guide, your local options include:
Andrew Yasso, AAI
Doug Foust, AAI

If you want a Single Pitch Instructor:
Dan Young, Red Rock Climbing Center

I'm sure there are others that I'm not thinking of.

Tracy Martin or Elaina Arenz are two great gals as well...

This is my first post, but I have been lurking on here for a while.

I hired Doug Foust in February of 2014 for a guided trip and I had a great experience. He was super friendly, knowledgeable, safe and professional. I came in searching for easy to moderate sport climbs, just like you, but he deals with all types of climbing styles and skill levels. He is also AMGA certified.

The first part of the day Doug took me out to a nice little crag and we clipped bolts until lunchtime. After lunch, Doug gave me the choice of climbing more sport routes, or following him up a multi pitch trad climb.

I had never climbed trad or multi pitch at that point, so I said, "What the hell. Let's try something new." That was the best decision I made while I was there. After spending some time teaching me procedures and methods, he lead me on a 4 pitch route that had an unbelievable view of the Vegas skyline. Awesome experience.

My wife went to Red Rocks in March, and climbed with guide Elaina Arenz. We all had a great time and climb. Elaina knows Red Rock very well.

We hired Elaina through Mark at Jackson Hole Mountain Guides, and would recommend her highly.

Hi Rusty,

Doug Foust is my colleague, and the only full time local AMGA Certified Rock Guide working consistently in Red Rock (to my knowledge). He is an excellent guide and person to hang out with and learn from.

I am a local from September - May every season, and also an AMGA Certified Rock Guide. During the summers I guide in Alaska, British Columbia, the Cascades, and the Sierra. I would be psyched to get out with you. Doug and I both work for the American Alpine Institute.

Elaina and Tracy are also local during that time of year, and are AMGA Certified Rock Guides. They are excellent as well, and work for both the Alpine Institute and Jackson Hole.

Hope you have a great trip.

Also - thanks to Kurt Hicks for the recommendation.

+1 for Doug Foust

My girlfriend and I were out with him by way of the AAI two weeks ago doing some trad climbing instruction. Top notch guide and instructor and just chill guy in general.

My experience with the AAI in general was solid aswell , great customer service.

We hired Doug Foust last year for a multi-pitch and he was great. Friendly, knowledgeable, would definitely hire him again. Guide well, he does.

I was lucky enough to be a mock client for Dan Young, for a guide test, he was great I learned a ton. I would definitely recommend him. Btw its called Red Rock not Red Rocks :)

There are several good guides in Red Rock, but here is another vote for Tracy Martin.

Tracy Martin is great.
Why not have the guide take you up a good moderate multi pitch?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
