Weather Pattern - City of Rocks, ID

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the weather patterns around City of Rocks and Castle Rock in southern Idaho.

We were planning on climbing there this weekend, but NOAA says there's > 60% chance of rain continually until Monday. I am just wondering if they systems typically go around the valley, or if everything is just going to be soaked and terrible.

Thanks!

I've never climbed at The City, but, just like anywhere, a 60% chance is not an encouraging forecast.

For the City, I always feel it gets the worse of the predicted weather. It is usually windier or gets rain when Burley does not.

Agree with Chris, usually rains more than predicted.

Point forecast says rain chance is 80% Saturday, 50% Sun/Mon:

Its going to rain.

wweatherunderground has the most accurate hourly forecasts IMHO, and it looks grim for climbing:

But, no need to be wet and cold when wet and warm is an option:

We will be up there next weekend, which looks better as of right now.

Most forecasts are either for Burley or Almo. Burley is around 4K' and Almo about 5300. Most of the City is at 6K' - 6500'.

If you are lucky it will come down as snow at that altitude.

Ditto that.

Flip side is that the rock dries fast. Usually because its windy. Ha ha.

80% chance on NOAA for Saturday in Almo. Not worth the drive IMHO.

Direct news from Almo!

Rained yesterday early afternoon. Cleared and I went climbing at Castle Rocks for a couple of hours. Water in the bigger holds. Rained just as I got back to the rig and rained most of the night. Raining off and on right now (early afternoon Friday).

Was supposed to have all 13 kids and grandkids in Almo for a party weekend, but everyone cancelled expect me and my little buddy.

Looks bleak weather wise until Tuesday.

You got some climbing in! Totally worth it!

Ditto on the comments about it raining more than forecast! I made the drive there on Wednesday hoping to get in at least a partial day of climbing. Weather forecast said 40% chance of afternoon showers. Unfortunately it was raining and pretty socked in already at 9:30 a.m. when we arrived. We hiked and explored for a few hours hoping it would clear, but no dice.

You climbed on wet rock?!?! How many holds did you break off?! That granite is pretty fragile.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
