New to Ventura

Hey everyone,

I recently moved into the Ventura area and am looking for some climbing friends! I have about 6 months experience under my belt climbing a little bit in Joshua Tree and Holcomb Valley. I was learning how to lead 5.7's and set the top anchor from a great guy that really seemed to enjoy seeing a new climber get excited. I'm looking for a similar experience here.

I have my own rope and basic equipment. No experience with Trad gear as I was hoping to gain experience with sport climbing before having to buy a full rack.

A little bit about me, I'm 31 and work in Camarillo. My girlfriend is moving here after she finishes in Grad school and we are just looking for climbing partners and friends. I also love to camp and hike and an ideal weekend would be to combine climbing, camping, and hiking!

Please get in touch with me if you wouldn't mind taking a new climber under your wing.

Thank you for reading,
Jason

Jason... Hi, Guy Keesee here. You might wish to move this to the Southern California section.... you know- closer to where you live.

I live about 30 miles from you, start going to Stoney Point, Tuesdays, Thursdays... you will meet everybody that matters.

maybe we can get out sometime, always looking for day partners for ECHO, Malibu, Wheeler Gorge and Santa Barbara....

cheers.

Hi Guy,

Sorry I thought this was in the appropriate folder as according to the location chart I'm in the central valley. I will try moving it to the SO. Cal section. Thank you

All,
So I'm also new to area, just moved to Camarillo. Over a dozen years climbing, mostly moderate multi-pitch trad. Happy to work with new climbers - have helped several guys learn trad - but I don't know the area yet. Available weekends for day trips. Willing to explore most anywhere and particularly want to go hit up Panic Town in Santa Barbara for some moderate trad crack climbing - got all the gear needed so no worries there. Let me know if anybody wants to get out.

Hey Ernest, I'm very new to the sport but have been bit by the addiction. Although new, I'm fit and learning fast. I've only top roped so far, but can't wait to learn multi-pitch. I'm fully geared up as I picked up a lightly used rack from a guy and added to it. I have ascenders if there's anything I might have difficulty following.

If you feel like hitting something this Saturday, let me know. Drop me a PM or email at brdemorin@yahoo.com

Great hearing from you Brian and Ernest,

Even though my original post is old the message is still accurate. Although since moving here I have taken an anchor building course through UCSB and have gotten some experience with setting some top rope anchors up.

I've been to the Foothills in Ojai and San Ysidro (probably butchering that name) in Montecito.

I am free this coming Memorial Day weekend for a day trip to get some climbing in.

Hey Jason, I'm wide open this weekend and would be great to get out with a partner and not have to use my self-belay system. Perhaps Ernest can join up as well if he's free.

Hey Brian,

While I have taken a course and have some experience building anchors I wouldn't feel comfortable just the two of us going out unless you also had some knowledge to check the anchors.

With that said, I'd want to wait and see if Ernest could join us. He sounds like a wealth of information.

Hope you understand.

I do. If just the two of us, I'd only be comfortable with top roping on some bomber bolts or large boulders to rope. Stoney Point is great for this. I have 100ft of 11mm Sterling static that does the trick perfectly. My anchoring is the one part where I have no concern. If it was a gear placed anchor, that would be different.

Try coming to the Ventura climbing gym Vertical Heaven and meeting people. Everyone there are good people, mellow and love to climb. Pine Mountain is a beautiful weekend destination for all of us. Pine trees and fresh air, a huge contrast to Stoney Point. If you go up on the week or weekends, you're guaranteed to run across tons of locals that climb outside. Hope to see you at either place.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
